Castleview Club Statement

Castleview AFC are delighted to announce Patsy Freyne has taken the position of senior manager with the club. Patsy’s experience and knowledge of the game is second to none in the Munster Senior League and beyond. We wish outgoing manager Derek Daniels all the best in the future.

We are also pleased to announce Timmy Sheehan will be the junior manager for next season. Timmy was part of the management team that won the U19 double a couple of seasons ago.

We look forward to more announcements over the summer with the club looking to build on last season’s underage success. C’mon the ‘View!

"Plastic" fans

Some football fans want success almost immediately. I am not one of them, I have supported the same team all my life, in my lifetime my team have won the league twice, FA cup twice, a European cup once and have playing top division football all through that time. I am very happy with my club, to me they would be considered to be in the top 5 biggest teams in England, but other fans might not think that, I look at fans that support many teams in the UK and think have your team enjoyed the same success as my team have in your lifetime?

Fans or plastic fans, the ones that jump ship because the latest team they support are not winning aren’t fans of football at all. The joke at the moment is Man City fans are on loan from Chelsea. But i know a few Chelsea fans that have supported them even when they were terrible, before Gullit, Zola and Vialli. What i’m trying to say is, don’t ever laugh at somebody because of who they support, a bit of banter is ok, but if they are true to their team then they are the same as you, a football supporter.

Football is a family game, we are rivals on the pitch but the same off the pitch. I just feel sorry for “plastic” fans, they should stick to other sports or just watch the game for the sake of it!

I’ll use 1991 as a turning point, when United were on the rise and Liverpool the descent. So to all the 22 year old United and Liverpool fans have a look.

Man Utd since 1991- 24 major trophies
Chelsea since 1991- 15 major trophies
Arsenal since 1991- 11 major trophies
Liverpool since 1991- 9 major trophies
Spurs since 1991- 3 major trophies
Man City since 1991- 2 major trophies

Should clubs give back to the community?

I see Everton in the community are celebrating their 25th anniversary this year, they have won countless awards for what they do in their community(Even if it is red side's community too). Should clubs like my own Castleview and others give back to the community?

I look across the barrier at St. Vincent's and I look with envious eyes for their own sense of community but that seems to come with the GAA spirit, but I want to do more. The community give us players, sons, daughter, brothers, sister, fathers and now mothers. We should do something for them, whether it's help a group of children on a walk, to helping the elderly paint their house.

The sense of community in the northside of cork city is second to none and I'm proud to say I'm Knocknaheeny born and raised, we have numerous clubs, both junior and senior with GAA and Football, I just think we could do more for the people that give their time to us and even to the people that don't.

It's just a friendly reminder that we are there for you and your family, the community of Corkonians, Northsiders, GAA fans, Football fans!

Your thoughts on this would be great!

Vlog?

Hi lads,

I'm thinking of doing a fortnightly video blog on football in general! Be it English Premier league, Munster senior league or AUL, I'll take questions and answer them through the video blog,

Let me know your thoughts and i'll put something together,

A little insight into Preseason

What is preseason?

I personally think preseason is a way of getting morale high, when new players come into a team or even with Castleview it’s a way of the new manager or new player to get used to their surroundings. Some players come up to a new club to make an impression, but getting sick at the side of a pitch doesn’t do much for their image.

When the players arrive they might think this is going to be hell or heaven. I never enjoyed preseason because I’m not a huge fan of running! But players need to be at least 75% match fit after training all summer, with preseason games looking after the other 25%. Some managers or coaches want to run players into the ground, I think players should be pushed a little more than normal training to get them back to the level of the season before.

Our season starts this friday, now it is a cup game so we will see if the interrupted preseason helped or not.

Preseason

What is preseason?

Is it a vomit inducing ritual that coaches bring down upon players to stamp their authority, a rue by coaches to blood new players into their mindset or a moral boosting session to show the players they are in this together? All will be told by a coaches point of view this week on my blog.
