Who's in your team?

We all have a favourite player, a favourite for now and an all time favourite. Mine are Tim Cahill and Duncan Ferguson. Two very similar players, tough, robust players that get in your face from the get go, two guys that will die for the jersey they wear! But throughout my years of supporting football many players have played that I’ve said I’d love to have them in my team, so who is your favourite eleven? The guys that you always like watching or the guys you hate your team to be playing against. From menacing to the mercurial, the tough to the talented, the everlasting to the ingenious!
Goalkeeper: Peter Schmeichel
I hated him, but at the same time loved him. He was was like an extra centre back, captain and manager on the pitch. From his ‘star’ saves to scoring goals you just had to like him as a player. He was guaranteed to get you 15 clean sheets a season and with United that is converted into 45 points straight away.
Right Back: Cafu
Who’s that old man booting up and down the wing? Of course it’s Cafu! He never stopped, with his cheeky smile he rarely scored but got countless assists. Twice world cup winner, Champion’s League winner, add in a super cup and cup winners cup(Remember that cup) he won it all. There are many right backs out there that could slot into that position but I would pick him for fitness and tenacity.
Left Back: Denis Irwin
Our man from the south side, Alex Ferguson still reckons he is the best signing pound for pound. He could play right back, left back, centre back and even get you a couple of goals. I think the only blemish on his career was getting relegated with Wolves.
Centre Back: Tony Adams
The last of the old school centre backs. Top notch player, no nonsense and could get on the score sheet aswell. A one club player, he won everything in England and I’m sure he would of won more if it wasn’t for a fantastic United team in the 90’s. Bit strange thinking he stopped playing top flight football when I was 21 and started when I was 1!!!
Centre Back: Lucio
A proper centre back, fast and takes no prisoners. Unusual looking at a good Brazilian centre back but he has everything. World cup winner, Serie A and Bundesliga winner he has the medals to show his class. He’s one of the players you just like.
Right Midfield: David Beckham
Obviously hated him when I was younger but again another player that can turn a match in an instant. From the half way line lob to the world cup qualifying goal against Greece in 2001, managers could always rely on him and still do. He’s won cups in 3 countries and countless individual honours. An all round great player.
Left Midfield: Ryan Giggs
You don’t win twelve championships by being an average player. Another player that can turn a game and we all witnessed that against Arsenal in the semi final of the FA cup in ’99 which set up the treble for United. He credits his longevity down to Yoga and training hard. Some people may say it’s something else ;-)
Centre Midfield: Roy Keane
Our Roy from mayfield, a true captain, some people hate him some people love him. I would say great player, great captain, probably an eejit! No nonsense midfield general who  made the transition from league of ireland to premier league winner. I know he has a champions league winner’s medal but i’d say he doesn't recognise because he wasn’t playing. His career was tarnished by the World cup incident but that is a whole new blog entry!!!
Centre Midfield: Zinedine Zidane
It has to be the French Genius, his touch was something else, his vision and passing were sublime, his heading wasn’t too bad either. World cup, Euros, Champions league, La Liga and Serie A winner he has the medals to boot, he even collected the Ballon D’or in ’98. I would of loving to see him in the premier league but with his sending off in the 06’ world cup final his career finished on a low but still a great player.
Striker: Cristiano Ronaldo
It was a toss up between Ronaldo and Alan Shearer but i had to go for Ronaldo just down to his sheer mass of goals he scores, to date over 250 in 450 games which going on form will be much higher than’s Shearer’s career total. The only downfall in Ronaldo is he hates seeing his team mates score, he must have a hugh goal bonus! Can be very irritating at times but is basically a goal machine.
Striker: Lionel Messi
First name in my team, simple as that. Sometimes I feel sorry for Ronaldo because he is playing at the same time as Messi, because if they weren’t Ronaldo would be the best. Sadly for him they are and Messi wins hands down. Sometimes words can’t describe how good Messi is. Touch, balance, vision, passing and finishing are all unbelievable. Again another player that has won everything, well except the World Cup but i don’t think that will ever happen.
So who is in your best 11? Is somebody going to be crazy enough to but Paul McShane right back? Eh, no!!!
